WTFlocka?! Is going on here in the legal system? They want to try a 17-yr-old teenager as an adult for his accidental shooting of two fellow classmates at Gardena High? This would mean the teen could face seven years in prison versus nine months at a Juvenile Detention Center if he was tried as a minor. I am certainly not condoning the perpetrator’s actions but I do feel this is highly excessive and I feel the prosecutors are trying to beef up their resumes with a case like this.
The real questions here is to find out why the teen felt like he needed the gun and to question his family’s environment. Truly the Gardena teen is just a kid trying to feel like “the man” bringing a gun that he don’t know how to use onto to school grounds. The other is if the school’s policy was to search the kids before entering school grounds, then why was it not enforced – which I don’t like in the first place ? When I go to school I want to feel like I am free. Imagine the first part of the day of school, getting searched up-and-down for dangerous items? It’s ridiculous. Kids are supposed to be raised with morals and a sense of pride to be better citizens of the world.
Let’s stop making excuses for beefed up security in schools, airports, etc. Get your kids in line, parents! It’s not the school’s responsibility to raise your child. They’re supposed to educate on academics not parenting.
