The first-ever visual arts hub to represent from the past, present, and future of Southeast San Diego hip-hop culture at its finest.
"UNDERGROUND IMPROV"
In the 1990's, the "UNDERGROUND IMPROV" was the mecca for Southeast San Diego Hip-Hop heads. It was hosted by ORKO DA SYKOTIC ALIEN and his crew MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. It was located along Imperial Avenue at the former Community Actors Theater. Hip-Hop crews all the way from the Bay area and Los Angeles would come to battle or perform on the "UNDERGROUND IMPROV" stage. It was a place to hone one's lyrical and musical skills while building a network in the music industry.

DITA QUIÑONES of Uniq Ones Media is a Southeast San Diego native, B-Girl, photographer and an
Emmy-winning multimedia journalist. Dita lived through the Southeast San Diego Hip-Hop renaissance. She can tell the stories of those times though her very own documentary photography. Dita represents the new generation hip-hop photography in the spirit of pioneers like Martha Cooper, Jamel Shabazz, Ernie Paniccioli, and Joe Conzo.

SAN DIEGO HIP-HOP RENAISSANCE CENTER is right on time. The advent of designating the Black Arts and Culture District in Southeast San Diego is on its way through the support of our District 4 Councilmember Monica Montgomery-Steppe and community leaders including, Uniq Ones Media.
