ABOUT ME
Adaptive Leadership through Journalism
Dita Quiñones is a full-time single parent and an Emmy-winning bilingual journalist, who works in broadcast news, online and print. Dita is inspired to deliver leadership to local community efforts for working families experiencing financial hardships. She knows first-hand the challenges of balancing childcare and career while living in San Diego as a single parent to a young child.
Dita was born in Tijuana to a Mexican mother and Filipino father. She is the eldest with two younger brothers. She moved to the U.S. when she was 2 years old. Always curious and creative, Dita spent most of her free time taking photographs and typing away on stories. Dita was a gifted student and graduated from Mission Bay High School, where she was the yearbook’s chief photographer and a member of “Adelante Mujer.” Upon graduating high school, she attended Southwestern Community College where she received an A.A. in Photography Arts. Dita moved to Pasadena and graduated from Art Center College of Design with a bachelors in cinematography. During her college years, she served on the board for the Chroma/Contraste Black & Latino Student Union, where she was committed to bringing students together through community events. She later attended UCLA and San Diego City College furthering her studies in broadcast news.
Dita’s raw talent and connection to the hip-hop community helped land her assignments on major advertising campaigns and music lifestyle magazines in New York.
Dita is a two-time vice-president for the local chapter of National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).
This year more than ever, she is motivated to build a better future for local working families and children through journalism.
