During these bleak economic times you wonder when will celebs give back to their communities, well the time has finally ripened. Chuch D of Public Enemy and General Jeff of Rodney-O and Joe Cooley, have put their activism efforts together to give L.A.’s Skid Row a free concert from rap favorites. Performers donating their time include: Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Kurupt from the Dogg Pound, Mellow Man Ace. and Zzyzzx, King T, Rapper’s Rapp Group, Sir Jinx and General Population, Kid Frost, L.A. Posse, and Egyptian Lover.
“We exchanged contact numbers again and Chuck mentioned that he was feeling the positive energy coming out of Skid Row but felt that it needed to be bigger,” General Jeff said. “He offered to use his “rep” in order to shed more light on our community’s issues. He felt that the best way to do this was via a concert. We initially choose the summer of 2012. Obviously, we couldn’t wait that long!”
The concert dubbed as “Occupy Skid Row” will be on Dr. Martin Luther King’s holiday in L.A.’s Skid Row, which has a homeless population of 4,300, from 1:30 PM until 5:30 PM.
“With all the ‘Occupying’ going on all over the world, it’s important that Hip-Hop use our collective voice and join in the worldwide movement. That’s why Hip-Hop will ‘Occupy’ Skid Row on January 15th!” said Chuck D.
