Vybz Kartel Skin Bleaching

WTFlocka?! What is wrong with Adijah Palmer (born January 7, 1976), better known as Vybz Kartel, skin? His new skin color is five shades lighter! The Jamaican dancehall artist has a questionable song titled, “Cake Soap“, which endorses it as his personal skin bleaching product. It was first referenced in his other song “Straight Jeans and Fitted” with the popular line, “cool like mi wash mi face wid the cake soap”. ‘Cake soap’ or ‘blue soap’ is actually a laundry detergent soap containing bleach, which get its name from its color and shape.

Vybz explains his skin bleaching, “This is my new image. You can expect the unexpected. I feel comfortable with black people lightening their skin. They want a different look. It’s tantamount to white people getting a sun tan.”

The chairman of Blue Power Group, makers of ‘cake soap’ or ‘blue soap’ is Dr. Dhiru Tanna. He told the Business Observer, “Blue soap does not bleach. It has no ingredients in it that damages the skin,” Tanna said. “If anybody is saying that it will discolor the skin or take off pigmentation that is absolutely not true,”

Despite their denials in skin bleaching properties, the Blue Power Group allowed their ‘cake soap’ making machine to be used as a prop in Vybz Kartel’s “Cake Soap” music video.

In the same year that “Straight Jeans and Fitted” and “Cake Soap” was released, the Blue Power Group enjoyed a 77.3%  increase in sales, making the ‘cake soap’ makers $3.7 million richer.

Yeah, ok there is no relation Dr. Tanna. Skin bleaching has been around for generations. Its really a stigma and insecurity of dark-skinned people trying to match the standards of European beauty standards.

This all seems like a legal loophole for Blue Power Group and Vybz Kartel to be protected from liabilities to all the  dark-skinned people that are being prompted by Vybz Kartel’s ‘cake soap’ claims.
