Hip-Hop was fully represented on “The O’Reilly Factor” by comedian and political analyst, Jon Stewart of “The Daily Show”.
If you didn’t catch it, Stewart slapped every piece of arsenal that O’Reilly had on Common, for supposedly not being suitable to perform at the White House because the rapper honored “cop-killers”. Stewart’s defense was impeccable. He included using examples of why didn’t O’Reilly pick on other entertainers that were invited like Bono and Bob Dylan, who also wrote songs about “cop-killers”.
O’Reilly attempted to make the point that Common was un-American for supporting activists like Mumia Abu-Jamal and Joanne Chesimard, “I am shocked…upset, annoyed looking for answers that a guy like Common would be entertained at the White House.”
“Common travelled to Cuba to meet with Joanne Chesimard who was convicted of killing New Jersey state trooper. Common said, ‘Damn, this was someone who fought for my freedom.’ SHE was a cop killer…and this guy think SHE’S great.'”
Stewart responded, “No, he thinks she’s innocent. I can’t speak for him, because I’m not him…He is honoring someone he thinks was wrongly convicted.”
“Are you familiar with Leonard Peltier? He was convicted of killing two FBI agents.”
O’Reilly in his signature cry, “You’re pettyfogging the issue.”
Stewart came back quick, “It’s the exact same thing. Guess who wrote a song about Leonard Peltier? Bono! Guess where he was? The White House. Booo-yah.”
Is it not obvious? O’Reilly hates anything urban, black, hip-hop and he loves to spark controversy. And that’s probably why we watch. All of America agrees. But, we do have to give it to O’Reilly for being man-enough to released his online poll asking the people who thought won the debate. The results were overwhelming: 79 percent for Jon Stewart. Let’s toast to the douchebag, O’Reilly.
What does Common have to say?
