In my best Michael Rapaport voice, Reverend Al “Do” Sharpton has been hit with a heavy tax lien from the IRS.
According to the IRS, Sharpton’s own debts include $365,558 owed in New York City income tax and $931,397 in unpaid federal income tax. His for-profit company, Rev. Al Communications, owes the state an additional $175,962 in delinquent taxes so that makes it almost $1.5M.
The Reverend Sharpton brushes his shoulder off when it come to being hit with this tax lien as something notable civil rights activists have come to expect from the government.
“Whatever retaliation they do on me, we never stop,” he said. “I think that that is why they try to intimidate us.”
The Associated Press reported, “If Sharpton is worried about his latest problems, you’d never know it. He is pressing ahead with his latest campaign: an effort to persuade the Justice Department to bring civil-rights charges against New York City police detectives who fired 50 shots and killed an unarmed groom, Sean Bell, on his wedding day. The detectives were acquitted of state charges in the shooting last month. Sharpton has been investigated before and always walked away clean.”
That confident attitude and perseverance for civil rights is really all that matters. Rev. Sharpton has done a fine job in bringing media attention and being able to fund raise huge collections for his civil rights activism. And he has the backing of President Obama….what you got?
