Tell me you don’t get annoyed watching this interview of Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) by Bill O’Reilly’s guest host, Laura Ingraham. Both looked stupid. The topic of the night was to discuss – African-American but Republican – Allen West’s comments likening the Democratic party to a “plantation.” The guest host never let Rangel actually answer a question, she’d shoot more questions and commentary while he was in mid-sentence – as if there was time limit of two-seconds.
This kind of reminded me of how “The View” gets the metaphor of “women cackling.” Ingraham makes herself look exactly like that. When interviewing let the guest finish talking so that’s it’s a discussion, not a bitter policeman’s interrogation. This type of interviewing is for shock value and an attempt to vilify democratic interviewees on “The O’Reilly Factor.” At one point, Rangel lost his cool, which I wish he wouldn’t have because now the Republicans are gonna use sexism against the Representative.
“This is something entirely different from what you just asked!” Rangel said at one point. He gave a loud sigh at another juncture in the conversation and told her her questions “sound like mini-speeches.” (“Maybe you don’t get real questions from real people,” she replied.)
“Bill O’Reilly told me he had a secret weapon,” he said. “I didn’t know it was just a pretty girl that he would bring here.”
“That’s very condescending, sir!” Ingraham fired back. “These are serious questions.”
“You have asked me 50 questions,” Rangel said. “I’m begging you. I’m begging you…just ask me one question at a time.”
