I agree with The Source Kanye West’s “Chain Heavy” featuring Talib Kweli and Consequence is a great song to kick off Black History month, yes the often-joked ‘damn why black people get the shortest month of the year?’ saying.
“Chain Heavy” could have been a perfect addition to the soundtrack of Spike Lee’s film “Bamboozled” had Yeezi made it back in 2000. The track was release last year on November 12th for Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Friday weekly series (an idea pioneered by LBC rapper Crooked I). The Q-Tip produced track contains some ill lyrical historical references to moments in Black History that need to be reveled and educated on. The title of track referring to struggles of making it in America as a Black man is “Chain Heavy”. Being how hot Kanye West is to the young generation maybe they’ll rock this educational track in their iPods to listen to the message. Myesssage!
“Don Cheadle time! Get extra black on ’em…This is the making of a masterpiece, ‘Til we broke out the chains and told the master, ‘PEACE!’”- Kanye West
