Happy Bo$$day to James Yancey– Detroit’s superproducer, the late a.k.a., J Dilla. Today marks his 37th birthday. He passed February 10, 2006 from the lupus disease. This documentary short was shot by B.Kyle shortly after J Dilla’s funeral. So emotions were high but celebratory with those closest to his Jay Dee including his mother ‘Ma Dukes‘ Yancey, Common, Erykah Badu, Black Thought, and Bilal. The ending gave me goosebumps and I wanted to cry. It just goes to show you elaborate film budgets don’t always make great films, but it’s the emotion and connection you have with the story at-hand. J Dilla’s musical masterpieces will live on for its timelessness and perfection. Watch film–>
