Feel the message. CHUUUCH! Hip-Hop icon Jay-Z says, “Knowing who you are…is the foundation of everything great.” Hova’s “Master Class” episode premiered on New Year’s Day, the same day of Oprah’s network launch OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network). There are so many obstacles for someone trying to make in Hip-Hop. The pressures of fulfilling the false images that flood Hip-Hop: having all the bitches; the stacks of cash in a Louis Vuitton bag; Jacob the Jeweler chains; liquor flowing like there’s no tomorrow. Well that’s not the reality. You may try to mimic what Jay-Z calls “the hot white spot”, and it could work for that hot minute but it won’t feel right and it won’t reach high levels of success.
In this episode you will gain Hova’s insight of how you can achieve excellence in work, personal relationships, and finding your truth. Jay Z reveals, “I’ve learned more from failures than success…and it can be paralyzing to some.” He describes the hard lessons he learned from the failure of his debut “Reasonable Doubt” to trying to be someone else in his sophmore release “In My Lifetime Volume 1”. What he finds out that he needed to be true to himself. And that’s when he found global success with “Volume 2…Hard Knock Life”.
People who hate on hip-hop music will be taken aback by Jay Z’s stance on the legacy of Hip-Hop music and how it’s brought the unlikely together:
“I have a very interesting take on the cultural impact of hip-hop and it’s a strong one…I think that hip hop has done more for racial relations than most cultural icons…Racism is taught at home. I truly believe that racism is taught when you’re young. And so it’s very hard to teach racism when your kid looks up to Snoop Doggie Dogg”
