Wowzers! So 50 Cent is showing us how powerful he is. He tweeted shortly after WorldStarHipHop’s (WSHH) site being shut down, “I don’t know why people underestimate me. I just shut down WORLDSTAR for future advertising contact thisis50.com suckers lol”
Back in 2009, 50 Cent confirmed in an interview his distaste for the video-ripping website, “I got a lawsuit against WorldStar for utilizing my likeness,” 50 Cent said. “A lot of people thought that was my site because they saw my face on the cover of an infringement with iRobot for a long time. They should really be nice to me, because I have lawyers and retainers. I pay them so much anyway that we’ll just go back and forth in court until you can’t afford a Subway sandwich.”
But it could very well be due to the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act bill that was approved back in November 2010, by the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill states the Attorney General gains the right to shut down websites with a court order if copyright infringement is deemed “central to the activity” of the site. Federal authorities have already shut down the sites, OnSmash and Rap Godfathers, last year as well as several torrent sites containing copyrighted material.
Remember when Inland Empire rapper 40 Glocc was beefing with Q, founder of WSHH? This may be the example that rippers need to learn: quit making loot by ripping videos without showing love to the artist that created it.
I wonder what Q’s next move will be…
